Longview Washington - Population: 34,660
Longview is served by eight public elementary schools (Columbia Heights, Columbia Valley Gardens, Kessler, Mint Valley, Northlake, Olympic, Robert Gray, and Saint Helens), three public middle schools (Cascade, Monticello, and Mount Solo), and two public high schools (Robert Alexander Long aka R. A. Long and Mark Morris).
Longview is also served by three religious based schools. The Catholic Saint Rose school serves kindergarten through eighth grade. Three Rivers Christian School serves kindergarten through twelfth grade. Longview Christian School serves preschool through sixth grade.
An intense rivalry exists not only between R. A. Long High School and crosstown Mark Morris High School, but also Kelso High across the Cowlitz River in Kelso, WA. The R. A. Long/Mark Morris rivalry culminates every year in so-called "Civil War" basketball games, the first held at R. A. Long's gymnasium (known locally as the "Lumberdome"), and the second on Mark Morris's Ted M. Natt court.

Kelso Washington - Population: 11,895
The original inhabitants of Kelso were Native Americans from Cowlitz tribe. The Cowlitz people were separated into the Upper (or Taidnapam) and Lower (or Mountain) Cowlitz tribes, who were members of the Sahaptin and Salish language families respectively. In 1855, European Explorers noted that there numbered over 6000 individuals of the Cowlitz Tribe.
The present city of Kelso was founded by Peter Crawford, of Kelso, Scotland, in 1884. It was known as "little Chicago" early in its history because of the large number of taverns and whorehouses that catered to local loggers. The economy continues to be based largely on wood products.
On May 18, 1980, Kelso residents had front row seats for the eruption of Mt St Helens. Many areas of the city - most notably the Three Rivers Shopping Mall - are built on volcanic ash that was dredged from the Cowlitz River from the mudflow caused by the volcano's eruption.
