Brandon Florida - Population: 77,895
Its history began on January 20, 1857, when John Brandon arrived at Fort Brooke (now Tampa) from Mississippi with his wife Martha and six sons. At first he moved his family to what is now the Seffner area. Then in August 1858, John Brandon purchased 40 acres of land in the New Hope area (now Brandon) south of Hopewell Road (now SR 60), between Parsons Avenue and Lithia Road. Nine years later, after his wife died, John left everything he owned to his son James Henry Brandon and moved to Bartow. In 1876 James built a home for his wife Joanna. It is still standing today and is now Stowers Funeral Home, a well-known landmark on Brandon Boulevard.
Meanwhile, John Brandon remarried a widow named Victoria and moved back to New Hope in 1874. John bought 160 acres and named his land Brandon. John and Victoria's house was located on what would become the corner of Knights and Victoria Street. Four years later, the New Hope Church was built on land donated by John.

Pinellas Park Florida - Population: 45,658
Pinellas Park is known throughout the Tampa Bay area for a series of community events held annually every year in a city-owned bandshell located behind City hall. The most popular of these events is "Country in the Park," a festival held every year generally on the 3rd Saturday of March, but always after the Florida State Fair and Florida Strawberry Festival. The festival's popularity stems from its wide array of events, such as arts and crafts shows, NASCAR displays, popular amusement park rides, and multi-artist day-long concert, and the fact that parking, entry to the festival, and attendance of the concert are all free of charge. As of 2006, the Country in the Park festival has been organized for 16 years straight. Another popular celebration among the locals is Pride in the Park. This celebration occurs during the week leading up to Country in the Park. Usually the night before Country In The Park, the Firefighters chili cookoff takes place at the bandshell.

Plant City Florida - Population: 29,915
Plant City's original name was Ichepucksassa after the indian village that once occupied the territory. So much confusion was caused, however, that the city was renamed Cork, after the postmaster's Irish hometown. It was finally given the name Plant City in commemoration of Henry B. Plant, for his railroad tycoonery which significantly boosted the commerce on this primarily agricultural community by incorporating it with the South Florida Railroad.
Originally, Plant City was a large cotton center, but after changing it's primary crop to strawberries it gained recognition as the Winter Strawberry Capital of the World.

Lake Magdalene Florida - Population: 28,755
As a northwestern suburb of Tampa, this bedroom community really has not had a documented history and has no centralized downtown area. It surrounds large Lake Magdalene in Hillsborough County and takes its name from that body of water. The lake was reportedly named after Mary Magdalene, friend and follower of Jesus. An often forgotten local legend claims that Mary Magdalene once appeared to a settler family along the waters of the lake, and her appearance prompted the lake to earn the name "Magdalene Lake" and she was referred to as the "Lady of the Lake".

Lutz Florida - Population: 17,081
Lutz began with the construction of a small train depot on the Tampa Northern Railroad which carried materials from Tampa to Brooksville. It was named "Lutz Station" by William Paul Lutz, an engineer on the Tampa Northern Railroad. The area surrounding the depot officially became known as Lutz when the U.S. Postal Service authorized a post office. The first post office was a 7 square foot building on a lot south of the depot. George Sibthorpe, the first postmaster of Lutz, moved the post office to his realty office. In 1914, the post office was again moved to inside the train depot. As people moved to the rural community from Tampa, the Lutz area continued to grow until it no longer depended on the "Lutz Junction", which was demolished in the late 1960s. In 2000, a replica of the depot was rebuilt in the approximate location, which is now at the intersection of Lutz-Lake Fern Rd. and US Highway 41.

Riverview Florida - Population: 12,035
Riverview is an unincorporated census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, near Brandon. The population was 12,035 at the 2000 census.
Riverview (originally called Peru) was founded in 1856 on the Alafia River's south shore. It was known as Peru (prounounced Pe-Roo) because peru was an Indian name for straight part of the river. The Peruvian Mining Company, which mined phosphate from the Alafia took it's name from the settlement of Peru. The term Alafia is translated as "River of Fire" due to the phosphorus on the early riverbottom glowing at night. The area's first school was built in 1893, inside the Peru Baptist Church. The area called Riverview began to be populated on the north side of the river. The two communities were connected by a river ferry. Soon after a bridge was constructed from sections of a bridge that once spanned the Hillsborough River downtown Tampa.
