Phoenix is the capital of the state of Arizona in the Southwestern United States. It is Arizona's largest city and the Phoenix metropolitan area is the largest metro area in the state, with well over half of the total state population. Phoenix is located in the center of the state, 118 miles (188 km) northwest of Tucson. It is the county seat of Maricopa County. It was incorporated as a city on February 25, 1881 and is called Hoozdo, or "the place is hot", in the Navajo language and Fiinigis in the Western Apache language. Phoenix is the sixth-largest city in the United States based on population. Census reported the Phoenix Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) as the fourteenth-largest in the U.S., with a population of 3,251,876. The city's MSA grew to an estimated 3,790,000 by 2004. Between 1990 and 2000, the metropolitan area grew by 34 percent, making it the eighth fastest-growing metropolitan area in the U.S.

Glendale Arizona - Population: 218,812
Glendale is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 218,812, while the mid-decade Census survey estimated the population as of 2005 to be 242,369; it is a major satellite city of Phoenix.
The NHL's Phoenix Coyotes and NLL's Arizona Sting began playing here when Glendale Arena opened in December 2003. Also in Glendale is the new University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals, which opened in August 2006. In 2008, Super Bowl XLII is scheduled to be played there. Both venues are part of the Westgate development plan, meant to spur growth in the sparsely habitated Yucca district.
Glendale bills itself as “Arizona’s Antique Capital,” with support for its claim from both Sunset Magazine (2004) and a 1998 article in USA Today. Glendale is home to the popular Arrowhead mall in the north-west part of the city.

Scottsdale Arizona - Population: 202,705
Scottsdale is a satellite city of Phoenix in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. Named by the New York Times as "The Beverly Hills of the Desert,"[1] Scottsdale has become internationally recognized as a premiere (and posh) tourist destination, while maintaining its own identity and culture as "The West's Most Western Town." However, despite this motto, in the 1970's, most horse corral new construction was prohibited. It seems that repairs are permitted on old corrals. What had, in the twentieth century, been vacant desert, is vastly converted to either urban &/or suburban environment.
As of the 2000 census, the city is the 82nd largest city in the United States, with a population of 202,705. The most recent census estimate (2005) is 234,752, an increase of 15.8%.[2]

Tempe Arizona - Population: 158,625
Tempe (pronounced /t?m.pi?'/) is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA, with a 2005 population estimate of 165,796 according to the mid-decade Census survey. Darrell Duppa is usually credited with suggesting the name, adopted in 1879, after comparing the Salt River valley near a 300-foot-tall butte, to the Vale of Tempe near Mount Olympus in Greece. Duppa also had the honor of giving name to Phoenix, 11 years earlier.
Tempe is a major suburb of Phoenix and is located immediately southeast. The upscale suburb of Scottsdale is immediately to the north of Tempe.
Tempe is the location of the head offices of US Airways (formerly America West Airlines) and the main campus of Arizona State University. It was the longtime host of the Fiesta Bowl, although the BCS game will move to Glendale in 2007. On New Year's Eve, the city hosts the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl Block Party, one of the nation's largest New Year's Eve parties.

Gilbert Arizona - Population: 109,697
Gilbert is a town in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. Gilbert was the fastest-growing incorporated place of over 100,000 people in the United States from 1990 to 2000, as well as in the 2002, 2003, and 2004 Census estimates. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 109,697, but as of July, 2004, a Census estimate put the fast-growing suburb's population at just over 156,000, a growth of more than 46,000 people or 42% over the four-year period. The 2005 mid-decade Census survey placed the estimated population for the town at 173,072.
Although it is large and growing rapidly, Gilbert is still incorporated as a town rather than as a city; it has the highest population of any area incorporated as a town in the United States (and the second largest in North America, after Markham, Ontario, Canada), and as of the 2000 census was the only town with more than 100,000 people. Gilbert was also the fastest-growing place among all cities and towns in Arizona.

Paradise Valley Arizona - Population: 13,664
Paradise Valley is a town in Maricopa County, Arizona, USA. The population was 13,664 at the 2000 census. Despite the town's relatively small area and population compared to other cities in the Phoenix metropolitan area, Paradise Valley is home to twelve resorts, making it one of Arizona's premiere tourist destinations. It has prime real estate, with a median home price at $1.5 million[1], with many exceeding $5 million and some over $15 million.
It should not be confused with the neighborhood in northeast Phoenix of the same name. For instance, Paradise Valley Community College, Paradise Valley High School, Paradise Valley Hospital, Paradise Valley Mall, and Paradise Valley Golf Course are all located several miles to the north, in Phoenix - a considerable distance from the town that actually bears their name.
Paradise Valley is often considered to be an extension of Scottsdale, another area with a wealthy reputation.

Laveen Arizona - Population: 0
The Laveen area was settled by farmers and dairymen in the 1870s. Despite its proximity to Phoenix, Laveen was isolated by the continuously-running Salt River. Up until 1911, when the Salt River Project built the Roosevelt Dam upstream, Central Avenue was the only bridged crossing of the Salt. Because of its isolation, early Laveen became relatively self-sufficient, boasting a country store, barber shop, repair garage, pool hall, and even a women's club building.[3]
After the dam was built, the family of the area's first postmaster, Walter E. Laveen, donated land for a school, which was built in 1913. Later, in about 1918, the area was named for Walter Laveen.
In the 1980s, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) proposed building part of the Loop 202 freeway through a portion of Laveen. ADOT later shelved these plans due to funding problems. However, plans for this freeway are back on track and the freeway is planned to pass through most of Laveen at about 59th Avenue.[4
