As of the census of 2005, there were 22,817 people, 7,533 households, and 6,109 families residing in the city. The population density was 264.5/km² (685.2/mi²). There were 7,699 housing units at an average density of 95.2/km² (246.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.11% White, 0.16% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.31% of the population. There were 7,533 households out of which 39.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.4% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.9% were non-families. 14.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.13.
