Livermore is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 80,723 as of January 1, 2005. Traditionally, Livermore is considered the easternmost city in the San Francisco Bay Area before entrance to the Central Valley. It was founded by William Mendenhall and named after Robert Livermore, his friend and a local rancher that settled in the area in the 1830s. After the discovery of gold in California, Livermore became a popular stopping place for prospectors headed for the Mother Lode, as it was one day's journey by horse or stagecoach from San Jose. Livermore's culture retains some vestiges of the farming and ranching traditions that have existed in the valley since the time of Robert Livermore, but now largely reflects the values of its suburban population. Livermore has a strong blue-collar element, as well as many professionals who work at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and various hi-tech industries within the Bay Area.

What People are Saying!

“The agent you connected to us was very helpful and was very good at staying in touch with us. He sent us all kinds of "stuff" about the location to which we might have been transferred. I would have had no trouble working with him to find just the right home in the new location. Thank you. Should a possible move come up again, I would not hesitate to contact you again.”
Edward A.

More Flaws Found In Anti-HSR Report
05/09/2012

The California High Speed Rail Authority is pushing back hard against a flawed study that claimed high speed rail operating costs in California would be higher than current planning suggests. Michael Rossi, one of Governor Jerry Brown’s appointees to the CHSRA board, found more flaws in that report: But in a letter to the authors [...]

$1 Billion Private Investment Proposed for HSR Maintenance
05/09/2012

For the last four years there have been regular indications that the private sector is very interested in participating in the California high speed rail project. Many critics and reporters have dismissed that interest, in part because no firm commitments have been made. Of course, the public sector hasn’t made a firm commitment either, so [...]

Valley Republicans Make HSR A Top Target
05/09/2012

Good article in the Fresno Bee about Republican candidates in the Central Valley making opposition to the high speed rail project a top priority in their campaigns – even when it means reversing long-held positions: For Republican candidates this election season, high-speed rail is Enemy No. 1 — or had better be. And that’s putting [...]

Kings County Needs To Make Up Its Mind on Rail
05/09/2012

Kings County political leaders have become vehemently opposed to the California high speed rail project, despite the clear need for the Hanford-Visalia region to have better connections to metropolitan regions around the state. So it’s very strange to see those same leaders demanding preservation of Amtrak service in Kings County: According to the California High [...]

The Important Detail the LA Times Left Out of Their HSR Story
05/09/2012

Our old friend Ralph Vartabedian is at it again. The notably biased anti-HSR reporter is out with a new article in the LA Times about a study on HSR operating costs: The state rail authority has grossly underestimated future operating costs of California’s proposed bullet train, meaning taxpayers potentially will have to provide billions of [...]
