East Stroudsburg is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, 32 miles (51 km) north of Easton. It was originally known as "Dansbury", but was renamed for geographic reasons when the Delaware, Lackawanna, and Western Railroad opened a station in town. It is situated in a picturesque region at the foot of the Pocono Mountains. Its population has shown a slow, steady escalation from 2,648 in 1900 to 3,330 in 1910 to 6,404 in 1940 to 9,888 in 2000, according to census reports. East Stroudsburg is served by the East Stroudsburg Area School District and is the home of East Stroudsburg South High School and the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Stroudsburg is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, 53 miles (85 km) southeast of Scranton It is the meeting point of the McMichaels, Pocono and Brodhead creeks, before the Brodhead empties into the Delaware River. It is five miles (8 km) from the famous Delaware Water Gap. In 1900, 3,450 people inhabited Stroudsburg; in 1910, 4,379; and in 1940, 6,186 people lived here. The population was 5,756 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Monroe County. It is part of the Poconos tourist region.
