In the years after the American Revolution, the Shawnee were the most prominent residents of west central Ohio, growing in numbers and permanency after the 1794 Treaty of Greenville. By 1817, the United States had created the Hog Creek Reservation for the local Shawnee, covering portions of what would become Allen and Auglaize counties, and including part of present-day Lima. The creation of the Shawnee reservation freed other lands in the area for settlement, and in February 1820, the Ohio legislature formally established Allen County. In 1831 the Shawnee relinquished all their land in the area to the United States and relocated to Kansas, opening all of Allen County to American settlement. The Ohio legislature mandated that a county seat be established. “Lima” was the result. Its name originated with Judge Patrick G. Goode, who insisted on the Spanish pronunciation “Lee-mah” after the capital of Peru, but the local vernacular -- "Lye-mah" -- prevailed.

Wapakoneta Ohio - Population: 9,474
Wapakoneta was an important site to the Ottawa Indians prior to leaving Ohio. By 1798, the Shawnee Indians had made Wapakoneta their headquarters. By 1808, there were reports of more than five hundred Shawnees, Senecas, and Mingo Indians living at Wapakoneta, including Black Hoof.
The Indians of Wapakoneta adopted the agricultural methods that the missionaries from the Society of Friends had introduced to them. The Indians worked to prove that they had indeed adopted the life of the white settlers. Wapakoneta was the location of the first sawmill and gristmill in northwest Ohio. In 1810, the United States sent a government agent to help the Indians. This did not last since the federal government removed the agent for failing to submit appropriate paperwork.
The Shawnees and Senecas continued to live at Wapakoneta until the United States forced them to leave in 1831. The Treaty of Wapakoneta and the Treaty of Lewistown resulted in the removal of the Shawnees and Senecas to Kansas.

Fryburg Ohio - Population: 0
Fryburg (also Freyburg, Freyburgh, or Fryburgh) is an unincorporated community located in central Pusheta Township, Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. It is located between Wapakoneta and Botkins. The community is served by the Wapakoneta City School District and the Wapakoneta (45895) post office. Fryburg is well-known for its annual Homecoming Festival, held the Sunday before Labor Day at St. John's Roman Catholic Church. The festival features homemade soups (including mock-turtle soup), sandwiches, and pies. Alcohol was previously served; however, negative publicity following allegations of underage consumption ended the sale of alcohol in the mid-1990s. Since then, attendance has slackened, although since 2005 the festival has experimented with ways to control the sale and consumption of beer. A community landmark is St. John's Catholic Church, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
