Canfield is a wealthy suburb of Youngstown, Ohio with strict zoning regulations prohibiting government housing, large signage, overgrown lawns, and above-ground pools. The tree-lined "Green" sits at the heart of the quaint New England-style village. Here many community activities take place. In 1992, Canfield City residents, although surrounded completely by Canfield Township, voted to secede from the Township. This motion created two separate governmental entities. One being a municipal form and the other a township form. However this did not destroy the community spirit that exists between both the City and Township. Both cooperate with each other for the mutual benefit of their particular constituents. An example of this is mutual fire protection service, communications with each other with respect to roads and highways, and the physical assets of both (schools, parks, etc.).

Boardman Ohio - Population: 37,215
One person who made a huge mark in the township was Edward DeBartolo, Sr., one of the first mall developers in the country. With malls across the northeastern U.S. and Florida, the Debartolo Corporation eventually moved from Youngstown, making its headquarters in Boardman. In the mid-1990s, DeBartolo was merged into the Simon Corporation of Indianapolis.
Boardman Plaza on Highway 224 (west of Market Street) was one of the first strip malls in the country. Established in 1950 by DeBartolo, the Plaza had three full-service grocery stores within a few hundred feet of each other. Today one must travel at least three miles to get the same food service. Later, circa 1970, Debartolo opened the more contemporary Southern Park Mall, near the intersection of Highway 224 and Market Street.

Salem Ohio - Population: 12,197
Salem Founded and settled by the Friends (a.k.a. "Quakers") religious group in 1806, the city was active in the early anti-slavery movement of the early-to-mid 1800's. Still standing are many of the beautiful homes connecting the famous Underground Railroad with their hidden rooms and secret passageways.
Another fact that Salem's residents are justly proud of is that their town was the site of the very first Women's Rights Convention held in the State of Ohio, Salem's overall active involvement in equal rights issues is a tribute to its rich Quaker heritage. In addition, Salem was the childhood home of American watercolorist Charles Burchfield and onetime residence of legendary radio disc jockey Alan Freed.

Struthers Ohio - Population: 11,756
Struthers is a city in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 12,036 at the 2000 census. Struthers is served by a branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. It is part of the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. With the steel industry booming in the early part of the 1900s, immigrants from throughout Europe flooded into Struthers. A village in 1902 when it was officially incorporated, Struthers quickly became a city in 1920. The steel industry allowed the city to flourish until 1977 when several area plants closed their doors for good. The city padded the loss of thousands of jobs by using its industrial infrastructure to lure non-steel making jobs, but population losses have continued throughout the start of the new century. An interesting fact about the city is that it’s the only city in the United States that does not have a cemetery within its limits.
