The Oceanside Fire Department was established in 1902. The last farm in the community, which was on Mann Place, was destroyed in a fire. Dr. Walter S. Boardman came to the Oceanside School District in September 1927 as high school principal. He served as Superintendent of Schools from 1940-1960. In Dr. Boardman’s book, he starts at the founding… The English government established a township in 1674 and land development came rapidly. Before that, this territory was called “South Bay,” as a region in the Town of Hempstead. “Christian Hook” came about from the religious connections in the young town.

Rockville Centre is a village located in New York's Nassau County in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 24,568. The Village of Rockville Centre is inside the southwest part of the Town of Hempstead. Near Rockaway, formerly a village for the Reckouackie Indians, in the late 17th century included what today is Rockville Centre, as well as Oceanside, Lynbrook, and East Rockaway. Population increased slowly through the 17th century, but with the erection of DeMott's Mill on Smith's Pond, Rockville Centre's position as a commercial center for the South Shore of Long Island began to emerge. The revolutionary fervor sweeping other parts of the thirteen colonies seemed far removed from the inhabitants of Near Rockaway, until June 1776, when a skirmish at DeMott's Mill turned neighbor against neighbor as the forces of independence swept through a fiercely loyalist community.

Baldwin is a hamlet (and a census-designated place) located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, New York. The population was 22,200 at the 2007 census. In 2007 CNN/Money Magazine ranked Baldwin as the 25th best place to live in the United States. Original inhabitants of the area between Parsonage Creek near Oceanside and Milburn Creek near Freeport were Native Americans known as Merokes, or Merrick, an Algonquin tribe indigenous to most of the South Shore of Long Island, who lived in two villages along Milburn Creek. In 1643, the land became known as Hick's Neck after two of Hempstead's early settlers, John Spragg from England and John Hicks from Flushing, who extended Hempstead village south to the salt meadows. The grist mill built by John Pine in 1686 on Milburn Creek attracted more settlers who engaged in fishing, farming, marshing, raising longwood, and breeding and raising sheep. Lynbrook is a village in Nassau County, New York, USA . The population was 19,911 at the 2000 census, but was now recorded at 29,000 in 2006. Lynbrook's mascot is the Owl. The location of Lynbrook was originally called Pearsalls. The village was incorporated in 1911. West Hempstead is a suburban community (and census-designated place) in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 18,713 at the 2000 census. West Hempstead is in the Town of Hempstead. The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.69% White, 5.94% African American, 0.17% Native American, 5.08% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 3.21% from other races, and 2.89% from two or more races. Woodmere is one of the Long Island communities known as the Five Towns, which is usually said to comprise the villages of Lawrence and Cedarhurst, the hamlets of Woodmere and Inwood, and "The Hewletts", which consist of the villages of Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck and the hamlet of Hewlett, along with Woodsburgh. Woodmere has become home to many Modern Orthodox Jewish families who have established a number of growing synagogues in Woodmere and throughout much of the Five Towns. As of the census of 2000, there were 16,447 people, 5,349 households, and 4,525 families residing in the CDP. The Woodmere station provides Long Island Rail Road service on the Far Rockaway Branch to Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. Some residents use the Hewlett station because of its location and ample parking. There are also 2 MTA Bus routes that go through Woodmere.
