According to historian Jeremy Belknap, the area was called "Wecohamet" by native Abenaki Indians. The first known European to explore the region was Martin Pring from Bristol, England in 1603. Settled in 1623 as "Hilton's Point" by brothers William and Edward Hilton, Dover is the oldest permanent settlement in New Hampshire, and the seventh oldest in the United States. It is one of the colony's three original townships, and once included Durham, Madbury, Newington and Lee. It also included Somersworth and Rollinsford, which together the Indians called "Newichawannock" after the "Newichawannock River," now the Salmon Falls River.The Dover School District consists of approximately 3600 pupils, attending Horne Street Elementary, Garrison Elementary, Woodman Park Elementary, Dover Middle School and Dover High School, as of 2005. Dover High's athletic teams are known as 'The Green Wave', and the middle school's teams are 'The Little Green'.

Rochester New Hampshire - Population: 28,461
Rochester is a city in Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 28,461, the largest in New Hampshire's Seacoast region. The New Hampshire Office of Energy and Planning estimated its 2007 population at 30,823. The city includes the villages of East Rochester and Gonic. Rochester is home to Skyhaven Airport and the annual Rochester Fair. Rochester was once inhabited by Abenaki Indians of the Pennacook tribe. They fished, hunted and farmed, moving locations when their agriculture exhausted the soil for growing pumpkins, squash, beans and maize. Gonic was called Squamanogonic, meaning "the water of the clay place hill."

Portsmouth New Hampshire - Population: 20,784
Portsmouth, New Hampshire is the largest city in Rockingham County in the state of New Hampshire in the United States of America. The city is served by Pease International Airport.John Paul Jones' ship Ranger was built in Portsmouth, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, located across the river in Kittery, Maine, was established in 1800 -- the nation's first. Portsmouth is also known as the site where President Theodore Roosevelt arranged the Treaty of Portsmouth, signed at 3:47 p.m. on September 5, 1905 at the shipyard by diplomats from Russia and Japan, ending the Russo-Japanese War. The occasion was marked by an honor guard, firing a 19-gun salute, and ringing area church bells. Located in the "South End," one of Portsmouth's oldest neighborhoods, Strawbery Banke Museum features an extensive collection of restored Colonial, Georgian, and Federal style architecture, saved from 1950s urban renewal by the efforts of Dorothy M. Vaughan and others.

Somersworth New Hampshire - Population: 11,477
Somersworth is a city in Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 11,477 at the 2000 census. There were 4,687 households with the average household size being 2.44 and the average family size was 2.95. Somersworth has the smallest area and third-lowest population of New Hampshire's 13 cities. The Somersworth School District consists of Somersworth High School (grades 9-12), Somersworth Middle School (grades 5-8), and two elementary schools, Hilltop School and Maple Wood Elementary School. In the spring of 2007, the Somersworth School Board voted to build a new school to replace Hilltop. On February 17, 2009 the Somersworth City Council voted to approve bonding in the amount of $19.9 million for the construction of a new elementary school. Site of interest is the Summersworth Historical Society Museum.

Durham New Hampshire - Population: 9,024
Situated beside Great Bay at the mouth of the Oyster River, Durham was originally called "Oyster River Plantation." It was settled in 1635 as a part of Dover.During King William's War, on July 18, 1694 "Oyster River" was attacked in the Oyster River Massacre by French career soldier Sebastien de Villieu with about 250 Abenaki Indians under command of their sagamore, Bomazeen. In all, 45 inhabitants were killed and 49 taken captive, with half the dwellings, including 5 garrisons, burned to the ground. Crops were destroyed and livestock killed, causing famine and destitution for survivors. The community would rebuild, and by 1716 Durham was a separate parish, named after Durham, England. Incorporated in 1735, Durham once included portions of the present-day towns of Madbury, Lee and Newmarket.The median income for a household in the town was $51,697, and the median income for a family was $83,609. Males had a median income of $54,519 versus $31,548 for females.

Greenland New Hampshire - Population: 3,395
One of the earliest settlements in the state, Greenland was a parish of Portsmouth (then called Strawbery Banke) operating in 1638. Captain Francis Champernowne moved from Strawbery Banke in 1640 and settled in the area of the present Portsmouth Country Club. He would call his farm "Greenland". His extensive landholdings included a farm which is now the town of Madbury, named for his ancestral home in Devon, England.Residents requested and were granted a separate parish in 1706. In c. 1710, Captain Samuel Weeks contructed a substantial brick house, thought to be the oldest brick house in New Hampshire still standing. It survived the earthquake of 1755. Only the 18" thick beams that supported the structure were cracked during the quake. Greenland would incorporate in 1721.Greenland annexed parts of Stratham in 1805 and 1847.
