Arnold was incorporated in 1972, and is named after George Arnold, a local landowner. Four communities merged with Arnold, and their old names still have some currency: Beck (named after local farmer Emmanual Beck), Flamm City, Maxville (named after Max Stengel, first business owner), and Ten Brook (named after landowner John Ten Brook). The first European settler in Arnold was Jean Baptiste Gamache, who operated a ferry boat across the Meramec River in exchange for 1050 arpents of land granted by the King of Spain. This ferry was on the King's Trace or El Camino Real, (royal road), from St. Louis, Missouri, to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

Saint Louis Missouri - Population: 348,189
Saint Louis, encompasses an independent city in the U.S. state of Missouri (the "City of St. Louis") and its metropolitan area (Greater St. Louis). This area includes counties in the states of Missouri and Illinois. St. Louis is the largest metropolis in Missouri and the 18th largest Metropolis in the United States. The population of Metro St. Louis as of 2005 is approximately 2,786,728 according to the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association (RCGA).
The city, named after Louis IX of France, is adjacent to but not part of St. Louis County, Missouri, thus giving it a unique situation in comparison to other metropolitan areas. This separation between the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County skews the statistics, especially when St. Louis news events are reported in the media.
St. Louis is one of the most historic cities in the United States, known for its long standing French and German heritage and bright Victorian past.

Affton Missouri - Population: 20,535
In the year 1803 the United States of America negotiated the purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France. At that time the western boundary of the United States was the Mississippi River. However, even at that early date there were many Americans who were residents of the Louisiana Country, a vast, roughly triangular shaped area which extended from the City of New Orleans to the Canadian border. St. Louis was already a thriving river city. The Chouteau’s, the Laclede’s, and other early settlers had already established a profitable fur trade with the Indians who roamed the rich fur country along the Missouri River.
Many of the early settlers around St. Louis had already been granted vast areas of land by the Spanish King, who ruled this section of North America through an appointed governor who had his headquarters in the city of New Orleans. One of the men who had gained one of these grants from the Spanish King was a Frenchman by the name of Gregoire Sarpy.
