The name "Coon Rapids" was from "Coon Creek Rapids" a turbulent part of the Mississippi River nearby the mouth of Coon Creek. These rapids were removed as a consequence of the construction of the Coon Rapids Dam in 1913. The Dam operated until 1966 when it was closed and later opened to the public as the Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park in 1978. Originally founded as a part of Anoka Township in 1857, Coon Rapids became a separate village in 1952. In 1959, it became a city. It retains its original boundaries, except for the part that became the City of Anoka. The city has a council-manager form of government, and its current mayor is Tim Howe. While mayoral elections in Coon Rapids are nonpartisan, Howe has been endorsed by the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. Since 1967, Coon Rapids has been the home of the main campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College.

Minneapolis Minnesota - Population: 382,618
Minneapolis (pronounced [?m?ni'æp?l?s]) is the largest city in Minnesota, United States, and the county seat of Hennepin County. It adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital and second-largest city. Together they form the core of the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the 16th-largest agglomeration in the country (and roughly 65th-largest in the world), with about 3,500,000 residents. In the 2000 census, the city itself had a total population of 382,618, making it the 47th-largest city in the United States. However, in the Census' 2004 estimates, that number had decreased to 373,943, putting it in 49th place, between Honolulu and Colorado Springs. If the two core cities themselves were combined together in the census, the resulting "city" would rank 18th, just between Memphis, Tennessee and Baltimore, Maryland.

Blaine Minnesota - Population: 44,942
Although Blaine is no longer the small rural town that it once was, it has preserved many of its natural areas.
Until 1877 Blaine was considered to be part of the City of Anoka, Minnesota. Phillip Laddy, a native of Ireland, is recognized as the first settler in Blaine. He settled near the lake that now bears his name, Laddie Lake, in 1862. Laddy died shortly after his arrival and his survivors moved on to Minneapolis. He was followed by Englishman George Townsend, who lived for a short time in the area of Lever St. and 103rd Ave.
It was not until 1865 that Blaine’s first permanent resident, Green Chambers, settled on the old Townsend claim. Chambers was a former slave who moved north from Barren County, Kentucky, following the Civil War. In 1870 George Wall, Joseph Gagner, and some others settled in the area and it began to grow.
In 1877 Blaine separated from Anoka and organized as a Township of its own.
