Evanston is a city on Lake Michigan in Cook County, Illinois directly north of Chicago, east of Skokie, and south of Wilmette. The city was first settled in 1836, and as of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 74,239. Evanston is part of Chicago's affluent North Shore region. Evanston was created out of the larger geographic unit which was called "Grosse Pointe Territory" in the 1830s and retitled Ridgeville in 1850. After being chosen as the home for Northwestern University, the city was incorporated in 1867, and named after John Evans, the University's founder. During the 1960s Northwestern University changed the city's shoreline with a 74 acre (300,000 m²) lakefill.

Northbrook Illinois - Population: 33,435
Northbrook is a village located at the northern edge of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 33,435 at the 2000 census, and estimated to be 34,190 as of 2005. When incorporated in 1901, the village was known as Shermerville in honor of Frederick Schermer, who donated the land for its first train station. The village changed its name to Northbrook in 1923 as an effort to improve its public image. The name was chosen because the west fork of the north branch of the Chicago River runs through the Village. Glenbrook North High School, founded in 1953 as Glenbrook High School, is located in Northbrook, as are the corporate headquarters of Underwriters Laboratories, Allstate Corporation, The Land of Nod, and Crate and Barrel. The village is also home to Northbrook Court shopping mall, the Ed Rudolph Velodrome, and the Northbrook Public Library.

Winnetka Illinois - Population: 12,419
The first houses were built in 1836, the first school in 1856. The village was incorporated in 1869 with a population of 450 by Charles Pack and Walter S. Gurnee, President of Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad.
The name Winnetka is claimed to have been found in a book, meaning beautiful land in a local Native American language. However, no language has been found with a word anything resembling both Winnetka and the definition. Though a charming story, the name was most likely made up.
The oldest house in Winnetka is the Schmidt-Burnham House. It was relocated in the 2003 from its original location on Tower Road to the Crow Island Woods.
