Roswell Georgia - Population: 79,334
Roswell was founded by Roswell King, a Native New Englander.
In 1830 while on a trip to North Georgia, where gold had been discovered , he passed through the area of what is now Roswell and observed the great potential for building a cotton mill along the Vickery (Big) Creek.
In the Mid 1830s he returned and built a mill which was soon to become the largest in North Georgia with over 400 employees by the time of the American Civil War in the 1860s
The ruins of the mill and the 30 foot dam that was built for power can still be seen today.
Originally included in now-neighboring Cobb County, the city was incorporated in 1854, when the city charter was signed by the Georgia General Assembly on February 16th. At that time, the nearest large town was the county seat of Marietta, a four-hour (one-way) horseback ride to the west,[citation needed] and residents wanted a more local government.

Dunwoody Georgia - Population: 32,808
The community was named for Major Charles Dunwoody. Dunwoody is one of the wealthiest and most prestigious areas within metro Atlanta, with many elegant homes, highly-ranked schools, and abundant shopping and entertainment.Ryan Seacrest, host for American Idol, and on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is among some of the notable residents of Dunwoody. As of early 2006, a study is being conducted by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government of the University of Georgia, to determine how feasible it would be to incorporate Dunwoody as a city. Backers hope to have the study done in time to have such legislation considered by the Georgia General Assembly. Critics claim that incorporation of Dunwoody, as in the incorporation of Sandy Springs in 2005, would take away a great deal of tax money from the rest of the county, leading to shortages of services, tax increases, or both for everyone else in the county. Citizens for Dunwoody, Inc. is the non-profit group leadingthe effort.

Duluth Georgia - Population: 22,122
Duluth is a popular and rapidly developing suburb of Atlanta, falling close to Interstate 85, which allows for a quick commute to Atlanta. It has schools at all levels up through high school. Its Peachtree Industrial Boulevard is the same road as Atlanta's Peachtree Road and Peachtree Street.Duluth is an old city, with its origins stretching back to the early 1800's, when it was primarily forest land. Initially only Cherokee Indians lived in the area, but with the creation of Gwinnett County, Georgia it was opened to white settlers. The shared names between Duluth, Georgia and the more well-known Duluth, Minnesota are no coincidence. Originally called Howell's Crossing after one of its founders Evan Howell, grandfather of Atlanta mayor Evan P. Howell, the town was renamed in 1871 to match the name of Minnesota's Duluth (which in turn is named for Daniel Greysolon, Sieur du Lhut) when it was named in a bill in the U.S. Congress to fund rail to that remote town.

Norcross Georgia - Population: 8,410
Norcross was founded in 1866 by John Thrasher. Thrasher named the town after his good friend Jonathan Norcross, the fourth mayor of Atlanta. Thrasher himself had been an early settler of Whitehall, but left in 1842. The site of Whitehall is now in downtown Atlanta, just southwest of the city center.
The original settlers in the Norcross area lived in Pinckneyville, two miles north of Norcross, at the crossroads of Peachtree and Medlock Bridge. They later abandoned their settlement and joined Thrasher in Norcross when the railroad was built in 1870. As the first train stop going northeast out of Atlanta towards Washington, D.C., it became a resort town for the Atlanta elite. Made more attractive by its slightly cooler temperatures due to the higher elevation, vacation homes were built in what is now Historic Norcross.
