Coral Gables Florida - Population: 42,249
Coral Gables was one of the first planned communities, and prefigured the development of the gated community and the homeowners association. It was at one point notorious for its aesthetic regulations, but they pale compared to those currently practiced by homeowners associations. The city was developed by George Merrick in the 1920s. The city's architecture is almost entirely Mediterranean.
Merrick designed the downtown commercial district to be only four blocks wide and more than two miles long. The area was once serviced by a free trolley system that ran down Ponce de Leon Boulevard, the main artery disecting the business district. Merrick could boast that every business in Coral Gables was less than a two block walk. The old trolley system was replaced by the popularity of modern automobiles until a new free trolley system was initiated in November, 2003. Now, Coral Gables is known as a pedestrian-friendly destination.

Sweetwater Florida - Population: 14,226
The city of Sweetwater was founded in 1941 and was named after the pure water of the Everglades, which some residents described as being sweet. The town founders were primarily Russian Circus freaks(midgets). Many of the original homes were miniature scale houses built to accommodate the midgets. For most of its existence, Sweetwater was a sleepy town with farms, horse stables, and small grocery stores. The 1970's; however, saw a rapid change in the character of Sweetwater. The campus of Florida International University was built just south of town. The Florida Turnpike and State Road 836 expressways created easy access from Sweetwater to the rest of the county. The desire of residents of Dade County (now called Miami-Dade county) to move away from the dense urban sprawl helped add to the rapid growth of Sweetwater.

Miami Springs Florida - Population: 13,712
Miami Springs is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The city was founded by Glenn Hammond Curtiss, "The Father of Naval Aviation", and James Bright, during the famous "land boom" of the 1920s and was originally named Country Club Estates. It, along with other Miami neighborhoods such as Coral Gables, Florida and Opa-locka, Florida, formed some of the first planned communities in the state. Like its counterparts, the city had an intended theme which in its case, was to reflect Mexican architecture and ambience. Shortly prior to incorporation in 1926, the city was renamed after a spring located in the area which served most of Miami with fresh water until the mid-1990s. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 13,422.
