New Haven Connecticut - Population: 123,626
New Haven is the second-largest city in Connecticut after Bridgeport. It is in New Haven County, on New Haven Harbor, on the northern coast of Long Island Sound.
New Haven's nickname is the Elm City, as it historically contained many elm trees. While most succumbed to Dutch Elm disease in the middle of the 20th Century, New Haven nevertheless remains a very 'green' city. It is considered the first planned city (1638) in the United States. The city is probably best known as the home of Yale University. New Haven claims to be where pizza was introduced to the U.S., and to the origination of the Frisbee as a flying toy.
New Haven is one of the most walkable cities in the country, ranking near the top of the list of places with the most pedestrian commuters. From the mid-1990s, the city has seen a major revitalization of Downtown New Haven that has extended into the city's neighborhoods.

Hamden Connecticut - Population: 57,698
Hamden is a town in New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
Hamden was originally settled by Puritans as part of the town of New Haven. The land was purchased by Theophilus Eaton and Reverend John Davenport in 1638 from the local Quinnipiack Native American tribe. It remained a part of New Haven until 1786 when local residents incorporated themselves as a separate town. It is named after the English statesman John Hampden.
Hamden was largely developed as a nodal collection of village-like settlements. These include Mount Carmel, Whitneyville, Spring Glen, and Highwood. It has a long-standing industrial history having been the site of many workshops of Eli Whitney, as well as Charles Goodyear. The major thoroughfare through town has been named Whitney Avenue in Eli Whitney's honor, and it runs past Whitney's old factory, now the Eli Whitney Museum, at the border with New Haven where a waterfall provided a good source of power.

Branford Connecticut - Population: 28,984
An area called "Totoket" which became Branford was part of the land bought from the Mattabesech Indians in 1638 by the first settlers of New Haven. The Dutch set up a trading post at the mouth of the Branford River in the 1600s. That's the source of the name "Dutch Wharf." [1]
The town's name is said to be derived from the town of Brentford, England. Early settlers were largely farmers, but with an accessible port there were also a trade in lumber, livestock, brooms and produce -- all traded for molasses and rum from the West Indies.[1]
The town grew during the 18th and 19th centuries. In the late 18th century, the first shoreline community was settled -- Stony Creek. Indian Neck, Pine Orchard were also settled, but none of those settlements were permanent until the mid-19th century.[1]
In 1852, the railroad came to town, bringing new business, including Branford Lockworks, Malleable Iron Fittings Company and the Atlantic Wire Company.
