Castle Rock is the county seat of Douglas County, Colorado. The town is the center of the burgeoning urbanization of the county. Castle Rock is named after a small prominent butte just north of the town, clearly visible from Interstate 25. Access is provided to climb to the top of the rock should one so desire. As of 2005, the city is estimated to have a total population of 35,745. Every August the PGA TOUR tournament The INTERNATIONAL is held in Castle Rock at the Castle Pines Golf Club.A new train depot brought the Denver and Rio Grande Railway to the area. The depot building now houses the Castle Rock Historical Museum on Elbert Street, where visitors can see history of how Castle Rock changed over the years. The median income for a household in the town was $64,138, and the median income for a family was $72,563. Males had a median income of $47,626 versus $32,328 for females.

There are two main High Schools in the Parker area, Ponderosa and Chaparral. There are also two main Middle Schools in the area, Sagewood and Sierra. The two high schools and middle schools are on opposite ends of Parker. Sagewood and Ponderosa are more to the southern part, while Sierra and Chaparral is on the northern area.
Parker currently has one local paper, The Parker Chronicle, and also receives The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. Parker also receives the county-wide channel, Douglas County 8, which broadcasts school sports events and assorted programs run by residents. The channel is sponsored by Comcast.
