The site of Sausalito was originally occupied by the Uimen indigenous people. In 1838 during the Mexican era, an Englishman by the name of William Richardson, who became a Mexican citizen and married the daughter of the Commandant of the Presidio of San Francisco, established a large ranch from which the later town acquired its name, the "Rancho Del Sausalito". Sausalito is Spanish for "little willow grove". In the 1870s, the North Pacific Coast Railroad (NPC) extended its tracks southward to a new terminus in Sausalito where a rail yard and ferry to San Francisco were established. The NPC was acquired by the North Shore Railroad in 1902, which in turn was absorbed in 1907 by the Southern Pacific affiliate, the Northwestern Pacific.

Petaluma California - Population: 54,548
Petaluma is a city with a well preserved historic center in Sonoma County, California, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 54,548. Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park contains the Rancho Petaluma Adobe, a National Historic Landmark. It was built beginning in 1836 by General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, then Commandant of the San Francisco Presidio. It was the center of a vast 66,000 acre (270 km²) ranch stretching from Petaluma Creek to Sonoma Creek. The adobe is considered one of the best preserved buildings of its era in Northern California. Petaluma is a transliteration of the Coast Miwok phrase péta lúuma which means hill backside and probably refers to Petaluma's proximity to Sonoma Mountain. Pioneered by the Spanish in 1776, the Petaluma area was part of a 66,000-acre Mexican land grant of 1844 by Governor Pio Pico to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo called the Rancho Soscol.

Belvedere California - Population: 2,125
Located on the Tiburon Penninsula, between Richardson Bay and the Town of Tiburon, Belvedere consists of two "islands"—the larger being Belvedere Island, the smaller being Corinthian Island, which is shared with Tiburon—and a lagoon (Belvedere Lagoon) situated between the two islands. The lagoon was partially filled after World War II to provide building sites for tract houses and to improve access to Belvedere Island. Narrow, winding roads circle the two islands, pressed in by mature landscaping, with occasional water views. These roads are frequently congested with commuters, construction vehicles, dogs, and bicycles. Houses on the hilly, heavily wooded islands have views of San Francisco Bay, Angel Island, San Francisco, Sausalito, the Golden Gate Bridge and Mount Tamalpais. Houses on the Belvedere Lagoon have boat docks, and there are houses with docks on Belvedere Island as well, many with yachts.
