Oceanside is the third largest city in San Diego County, California. The city has a population of 173,303. Together with Vista and Carlsbad, it makes up the Tri-City area. The city is just south of Camp Pendleton, the largest U.S. Marine Corps base in the world. The area was first visited by European explorers in 1769. In the late 1850s, Andrew Jackson Myers lived in San Joaquin County. A native of La Salle County, Illinois, he returned in the late 1880s and lived in San Luis Rey. In 1882 Myers moved on the land that was the original town site for Oceanside. A patent for the land was issued in 1883 by the federal government.[1] It was incorporated on July 3, 1888. The current city hall now stands on the former homestead of Myers.

Carlsbad California - Population: 78,247
Carlsbad is a suburban city in northern San Diego County, California. According to the state Department of Finance, the city had a total population of 90,271 in 2003. Carlsbad was incorporated in 1952, in large part to generate sufficient funding to connect with the water pipeline running through San Diego County, but also to avoid being annexed by Oceanside.
Environment is of great concern to the city. Thus, the city has drafted ordinances protecting sensitive wildlife habitat, one of the first such ordinances within the state of California. The city has also promised to protect a certain amount of land within city limits from development of any kind, along with spending significant funds to restore habitats destroyed by newer development projects.
Because of its location, relatively low population density and high performing school districts, the city is seen to have a rather high quality of life.
